Roger Arellano – the MindMate app

The idea of assistive technology (AT) may well bring to mind the generic, analogue white boxes associated with falls alarms. However, today’s software-based digital economy has brought AT in easier-to-use apps to smartphones and tablets. One such app is MindMate, which is at the forefront of this new approach to using technology in a care setting.

Roger Arellano, Chief Technology Office at MindMate, introduced us to the app, showing delegates how someone living with dementia can utilise the product to tailor activities that can benefit them both physically and mentally. Using maching learning, MindMate can ‘understand’ what a user likes to do and also how an activity may be adapted to better suit their needs.
