Shirley Law is Director of Learning and Development at the Dementia Services Development Centre (DSDC), University of Stirling. She oversees the content and delivery of DSDC’s courses, publications, training and consultancy services, including the award-winning learning programme for care staff, Best Practice in Dementia Care. Previous to joining the DSDC in November 2007, Shirley was a Charge Nurse for NHS Tayside in Perthshire, specialising in dementia care. Her continued contribution to nursing, through DSDC training, has been recognised by many awards schemes, including the Nursing Standard’s ‘Nurse of the Year Awards’ which awarded her work the Mental Health Award in 2013. Together with Dementia Services Development Centre colleagues, Shirley is part of a collaborative team working towards the shared vision of a Dementia-Friendly Stirling. DSDC has taken the lead in developing the project’s overall framework, and is now working with local partners, including Stirling Council, to make it happen.
