Areas of interest: check Co-Production check Research

Sarah Keyes is a Research Fellow in the School of Health in Social Science at the University of Edinburgh. Her work focusses on innovation in participation, empowerment and care for people with dementia. Academically, Sarah comes from a Disability Studies background, bringing a social model approach to understanding dementia to the development of Memory-Friendly Neighbourhoods. More recently, Sarah has begun to develop a dialogue between a social model understanding of dementia and an Ethic of Care, which provides a fresh approach to supporting people with dementia: empowerment through care. There are three areas of research through which Sarah is establishing new ways of working (i) co-design of care environments (ii) co-produced research (ii) mutual support. Sarah recently had the privilege of working with the Scottish Dementia Working Group Research Sub-Group, and other dementia researchers, to co-create Core Principles for Involving People with Dementia in Research.
