Ruth Eley is the Director and Vice-Chair of The Life Story Network, which provides information on using Life Story Work to enhance care for older people, particularly those with dementia. Projects include Your Story Matters, which trained 500 family and professional carers in Life Story Work, and Your Community Matters, a finalist in the inaugural Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Friendly Awards. On behalf of the Liverpool Dementia Action Alliance, she is leading work with the transport sector in the city to help improve their services to customers who are living with dementia.
Ruth was the National Programme Lead for Older people and Dementia at the UK Department of Health where she played a key role in developing Living Well With Dementia: a national dementia strategy (2009). Having trained as a social worker, she has held a series of senior management posts in hospital social work, provider services and strategic planning. She is currently leading a review of older people's mental health services in north Wales.
Ruth is a published author on topics including gender issues in management, protecting vulnerable people, and commissioning services for people with dementia. She is a Founder Member of the AESOP Consortium which completed the The York Dementia Without Walls project in 2012 for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.
