Dr Richard Ward is a Lecturer in Dementia Studies at the University of Stirling. He is a registered social worker with particular expertise in working with people with dementia.
Since completing his PhD, Richard has worked with various teams in universities across the UK, including Middlesex University, the Open University and the University of Manchester. He is a member of the British Sociological Association Ageing, Body & Society Study Group and of the Dementia and Gerontology Research Group at Stirling.
Together with Sarah Campbell (University of Manchester), Richard is currently completing The Hair and Care Project, a 28-month, ESRC-funded investigation into social care practice, and issues of appearance management, for people with dementia. He is also part of the Neighbourhoods and Dementia research programme, jointly funded by the ESRC and NIHR, wherein he leads a work package exploring the meaning and experience of neighbourhood for people with dementia and their carers.
