Maria Zubair is a sociologist, currently working at the University of Leicester and living in Manchester (UK). Following a PhD in the Sociology of ‘Race’ and Ethnicity, Maria began her post-doctoral research journey in social gerontology working within an ESRC-funded New Dynamics of Ageing project. Maria has accumulated extensive research experience in the fields of ageing, dementia and ethnicity. Her current research interests fall broadly within the areas of social identities, diversities and inequalities in old age. This includes a particular focus on: social constructions of old age, ageing and health; ageing and later life among racialised/ minoritised ethnic-groups; ‘race’/ racialisation within public health discourses; intersectionality, negotiation and performativity of social identities; social relationships and support networks in old age; health and social care provision for older populations; and gendered experiences of ageing, later life and health & wellbeing.
