Professor Heather Wilkinson is Director of Research and Knowledge Exchange for the School of Health in Social Science, Head of Interdisciplinary Social Science in Health, and Co-director of the Centre for Research on Families and Relationships at the University of Edinburgh. Currently leading the international Showing the Way research programme on signage for people in dementia environments, a collaboration with Hammond Care Australia, Heather has twenty years research and knowledge exchange expertise in improving the care of older people. Her work focuses on developing better understandings of methodological and personal perspectives of people with dementia and for people with learning disabilities and dementia. She has been funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), Joseph Rowntree Foundation, UK Department of Health, NHS Health Scotland and the Mental Health Foundation. In 2012, she developed and launched the MSc in Dementia: International Experiences, Policy and Practice programme at Edinburgh, of which she is Programme Director.
